Prefabrication in ithaca
Prefabrication is the manufacturing process that takes place somewhere other than the final building site, where materials are joined to form components that will be used in a final installation. This process is used instead of building the components on-site. Prefabrication has been proven to reduce project duration, improve productivity, reduce labor costs and improve safety.
Our prefabrication shop is located at our headquarters in Elmira Heights, and it allows us to realize significant efficiencies in labor through preparation and assembly of components in a controlled weather environment. This makes the installation on site much easier and quicker.
Technology: By using Trimble's VDC Pro+ Solution, John Mills Electric functions in a collaborative, efficient and costs-aware manner not easily matched by our competitors. This platform also allows extreme flexibility for our project prefabrication detailing, and saves a great deal of time by managing and providing up-to-date manufacturer information, parts and fittings throughout our design process.
This approach also allows us to easily collaborate across entire project teams and provide project visibility to decision makers and stakeholders, resulting in informed decisions, more flexibility and successfully completed projects.
Prefabrication Process: The process begins with lay-out and coordination of all feeder and branch conduit routes throughout the building that we are working on. This is accomplished by the office engineer/prefab manager dedicated to John Mills Electric's prefabrication. The prefabrication manager must also consider coordination and routing with other trades.
With the prefab process and trade coordination and tools (CAD), we can determine junction box locations and begin work as soon as the building is accessible.
Anything requiring a “Black Box,” like Combiner Boxes are prepared on trusses in the prefab shop. This means that conduit runs can be done immediately, without waiting on other trades, and that prefabricated components can be delivered and installed in a timely manner.
MC Cabling, wiring and device boxes that are going into hollow walls are all prepared in prefab as well.
Due to our advanced prefabrication capabilities and experience, John Mills Electric is much more qualified than other contractor firms.
"At John Mills Electric we are always looking for better ways to do things. Prefabrication is an evolution in our industry, and we have adapted and embraced prefab at our company," said George Denmark, president of John Mills Electric. "The prefab methodology and process has helped us keep a more constant workforce by minimizing surges and fall-offs, and has also helped us remain competitive. Also, the on-site electrical work that used to take us days, now takes hours."
